The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets’ regimental band, the Highty-Tighties, will represent Virginia Tech at the Savannah St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 16.

Leading the Highty-Tighties through downtown Savannah, Georgia, will be Parker Treubert, a senior majoring in aerospace engineering. He plans to commission into the U.S. Air Force as a pilot after graduation.

As drum major, Treubert’s job is to guide the band’s steps, song choice, and rhythm during all of its performances. “This past year as drum major has been an honor and a great privilege that I would do again if I could,” he said. “I thoroughly enjoy the football games during the fall, and I am looking forward to the band trip in Savannah.”

The parade — more than 280 bands, organizations and floats — begins at 10:15 a.m. It traces its roots to 1824, making it one of the oldest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the nation.

It also boasts a history as being one of the favorite spring semester destinations for Highty-Tighties because of the heart-felt applause and hospitality from parade-goers, said Director Jim Bean, a retired senior chief musician for the U.S. Navy.

“We always love attending that parade, and everybody in Savannah loves seeing us,” Treubert said. “We try to change it up on where we go every year but we will always try for a trip to Savannah. I personally have never been, but I am very excited for a new adventure.”
