The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors will hold its quarterly board meeting on Monday, April 1, at 1:15 p.m. in the Board Room of Torgersen Hall (Room 2100, 620 Drillfield Drive) on the Blacksburg campus.

On Sunday, March 31, a board of visitors selection committee will meet in closed session from 9:45 to noon in the Huckleberry Room at the Inn at Virginia Tech (901 Prices Fork Road, Blacksburg) to interview candidates for the board’s two student representative positions. The committee will continue to meet in closed session from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. in the 1872 Salon for deliberations on the candidates.

Later on Sunday afternoon, an information session for all board members will be held in open session from 1:30 to 3:20 p.m. in the Solitude Room at the Inn at Virginia Tech.

Also during the two-day meeting, the following Board of Visitors committees will meet at the Inn at Virginia Tech:

  • On April 1, the Academic, Research, and Student Affairs Committee will meet in closed session at 8:30 a.m. in the Solitude Room, followed by an open session meeting at 9 a.m., also in the Solitude Room.
  • The Buildings and Grounds Committee will meet April 1 in closed session at 8 a.m. in the Duck Pond Room. The committee will then depart from the Inn at Virginia Tech at 8:30 a.m. to tour the Virginia Tech Rescue Squad Station and the recently renovated Liberal Arts Building and Davidson Hall. At 10 a.m., the committee will meet in open session, also in the Duck Pond Room. At 11:30 a.m., the Finance and Resource Management Committee will join Buildings and Grounds in open session, also in the Duck Pond Room.
    Editor's note: The Buildings and Grounds Committee will also tour the award-winning FutureHAUS project on Monday.
  • The Compliance, Audit, and Risk Committee will meet in closed session on March 31 at 8 a.m. in the Duck Pond Room and will meet in open session 8:30 a.m. in the Solitude Room.
  • The Finance and Resource Management Committee will meet March 31 in open session from 3:30 to 5:45 p.m. in the Solitude Room. The committee will also meet on April 1 in closed session at 8 a.m. in the 1872 Salon, followed by an open session to approve any action they may have taken in closed session.
  • The Governance and Administration Committee will meet April 1 in open session at 8 a.m. in the Smithfield Room.

During the two-day meeting, board members will consider resolutions on 2019-20 tuition and fees, 2019-20 compensation for graduate assistants, the partial demolition of Holden Hall (in order to prepare for the expansion of that facility), and the creation of a new Ph.D. program in neuroscience. Board members will also receive reports on the Innovation Campus, the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative, and the Rural Virginia Initiative.
