Gota Morota named professor of animal and poultry science
Morota received his doctorate in animal sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Gota Morota, professor of animal and poultry science, is one of a number of new faculty members recently hired in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences this academic year. New positions were identified to bring talent to the college's focus areas, including food, health, the environment, and community viability. The new faculty members are distributed across teaching, research, and Extension.
Morota’s research interests center on statistical quantitative genetics and its application to animal and plant breeding. His work connects phenotypic variation with high-dimensional omic information including single nucleotide polymorphisms, gene expression, and DNA methylation. His recent research involves developing statistical methods for prediction of complex traits and association studies.
He received his bachelor’s degree in agricultural science from the Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, and both his master’s degree in dairy science, and his doctorate in animal sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
