Cassie Wedd Wagner has been named the director of alumni and referring practitioner relations at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. She joined the college’s advancement team in June.

In her new role, Wagner leads engagement of the college’s more than 3,200 professional and graduate program alumni. She also serves as the primary liaison between referring veterinary practitioners in Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia and the college’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Blacksburg, Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center in Leesburg, and Comparative Oncology Research Center in Roanoke.

“We are pleased to welcome Cassie back to the college as a member of our advancement team,” said Alison Wainwright Davitt, assistant dean of advancement for the college. “Her knowledge of the college's One Health programs, experience in providing services across a diverse spectrum in both human and animal medicine, and established relationships with alumni will be valuable complements to our college’s advancement efforts.”

Most recently, Wagner served as a clinical outcomes analyst and case manager at LewisGale hospitals Montgomery, Pulaski, and Medical Center. In that capacity, she collaborated with physicians, nurses, and outside entities to provide quality patient care services. Previously, Wagner was a registered nurse at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and The George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C.

“We’re delighted to have a two-time Hokie join our advancement team,” said Deborah Day, Virginia Tech’s associate vice president for alumni relations. “Cassie is the ideal fit for the college and alumni relations. She brings a transdisciplinary perspective to our efforts to engage a diverse college alumni body.”

Wagner received her doctor of veterinary medicine degree from the college and her master of public health from Virginia Tech in 2013. She holds a bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Virginia.
