Students,

Your safety is of the utmost importance to us.  We always want you to be Hokie Ready whenever there are potential safety concerns such as with impending Hurricane Florence.  The weather pattern related to this storm continues to change. Please know numerous campus entities, led by our Office of Emergency Management, remain actively engaged in monitoring the conditions very closely and making appropriate preparations. At this time, we believe it is best for our Blacksburg students to remain on campus and not be traveling during the storm. While some of our Hampton Roads facilities have been affected, classes in Blacksburg and the National Capital Region, as well as satellite locations, currently remain in session.

We encourage you to focus at this time on standard preparedness measures such as building an emergency kit, if you don’t already have one, and having several days’ worth of shelf-stable, non-perishable food items and bottled water on hand.

The site you should always reach to in situations like this is the Virginia Tech status page.

Stay safe, Hokies!

Patricia A. Perillo,
Vice President for Student Affairs
