If you travel the Huckleberry Trail and the Virginia Tech trail network to get to and from campus, you may have noticed some of the new enhancements completed over the summer.

As part of the VDOT Southgate/460 Interchange Project, new trail improvements were implemented to help boost safety for riders and walkers, as well as boost connectivity among the trail network in Blacksburg – and beyond.

Recent trail improvements include:

  • Three new trail roundabouts that will improve safety and trail visibility.
  • New trail along Southgate Drive that connects the Huckleberry Trail to English Field and the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and the rest of the Virginia Tech trail network.
  • New and improved grade separations at trail crossings along Route 460, Research Center Drive, and Southgate Drive.
