Nine students elected by peers to lead Virginia Tech Rescue Squad

Approximately 1,200 calls. That’s the average number of calls the Virginia Tech Rescue Squad responds to over the course of the year.

The Virginia Tech Rescue Squad (VTRS), founded in 1969, is the oldest collegiate rescue squad in Virginia and second oldest in the nation. VTRS is entirely student-run and has 40 student-members who perform the same functions of a municipal rescue squad.

VTRS recently held officer elections for the 2018-19 academic year. The officers are:

Michael Geary, chief, is a senior from Richmond, Virginia, majoring in wildlife conservation, and religion and culture.
Jonathan Huaman, administrative captain, is a senior from Sterling, Virginia, majoring in clinical neuroscience and psychology.
Nick Troitino, operations captain, is a senior from Elk Creek, Virginia, majoring in biology.
Julia Nguyen, public outreach lieutenant, is a senior from Fairfax, Virginia, majoring in biomedical sciences.
Michael Wheeler, personnel lieutenant, is a senior from Chesapeake, Virginia, majoring in biochemistry.
Abigail Mameghani, communications lieutenant, is a junior from Ashburn, Virginia, majoring in psychology.
Jake Martin, training lieutenant, is a sophomore from Mechanicsville, Virginia, majoring in human nutrition, food, and exercise.
Ben Klingaman, equipment lieutenant, is a junior from Woodbridge, Virginia, majoring in criminology.
Blake Smith, vehicles lieutenant, is a senior from Lebanon, Connecticut, majoring in animal and poultry sciences.
