Join Cuban ensemble El Septeto Santiaguero as they perform the rich, fresh sounds of their home and celebrate their recent 2019 Latin Grammy nomination at the Moss Arts Center on Friday, Oct. 5, at 7:30 p.m.

The performance will be held in the center’s Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre, located within the Street and Davis Performance Hall at 190 Alumni Mall.

The ensemble infuses an adventurous streak into the traditional son music of its native Santiago de Cuba. El Septeto Santiaguero’s captivating performers honed their sound at the famous Casa de la Trova nightclub, cultivating an infectious call-and-response style that heats up dance floors wherever they go.

The ensemble has performed in more than 30 countries and collaborated with salsa stars like José Alberto (“El Canario”) and Rubén Blades. They won the Latin Grammy Award for Best Traditional Album in 2015 and was recently nominated for the 2019 award in the same category.

During their visit to Blacksburg, members of El Septeto Santiaguero will conduct a workshop with Virginia Tech students.
