Get hands-on with campus art experiences during Arts@VirginiaTech Week
Celebrate the transformative power of the arts and experience how the arts are integrated into everyday life at Virginia Tech, both inside and outside of the classroom, during Arts@VirginiaTech Week. Held Sept. 10-14, the festival features free performances, workshops, talks, and opportunities to create.
Inspired by National Arts in Education Week, events for the week-long festival range from an outdoor open mic café to a hands-on spatial sound workshop in the Cube, culminating with the Moss Arts Center’s season opening performance by the Paul Taylor Dance Company and Pablo Ziegler Ensemble, on Friday, Sept. 14, at 7:30 p.m.

Intro to Spatial Audio for Music/Space Jam
Receive an introduction to spatial audio techniques and get hands-on with spatialized sound in the Cube with opportunities to play with instruments and controllers in an open-house format.

Tuesday, Sept. 11
Noon-3 p.m.
Library Reinvented: Technology Arts Bazaar and Interactive Green Screen Technology Workshop
The Technology Arts Bazaar features virtual and augmented reality experiences and 3D printing. Guests will have the opportunity to get hands-on with the available equipment and participate in a green screen photography workshop. Workshops begin at 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.

Acoustic Café
Sip coffee and enjoy student musicians at this outdoor open mic event. Presented by the Virginia Tech Union, the evening’s opening set will feature the Itraab Ensemble, a community-based group that performs musical pieces from various parts of the Arab world.

Bringing Data to Life: From Numbers to Pictures
Participants will learn about the creative aspects of presenting data sets.

The Art of Robotics
Learn more about the creative aspects of robot building with TEK (Teaching, Engineering, and Kinematics) Robotics, a college robotics team at Virginia Tech.

Performing Arts in the Garden
Bring blankets or chairs to relax on the lawn with musicians and poets, and wander throughout the gardens to experience more than 30 works of art installed for “Simply Elemental 2018.”

Game Changineer and Song Imagineer
Create video games and musical compositions in record time. Design a video game using Changineer, a platform created to introduce programming concepts and reinforce English language lessons for students of all ages. Song Imagineer will automatically produce accompanying music when provided lyrics by a user, creating a song in just minutes.
Please note that participants must bring their own laptops.

Open Studio Hours with Digging in the Crates
Join the Virginia Tech Digging in the Crates experts for open studio hours. Participants will have the opportunity to play with new audio gear and learn how to engineer music tracks.

501st Legion: Bad Guys Doing Good
Learn about armor building, community engagement, and the importance of art in the movie “Star Wars” with the local unit of the 501st Stormtrooper Legion, an all-volunteer organization created to promote interest in "Star Wars" and contribute to local communities.
