She performed with bluegrass star Alison Krauss at the Grand Ole Opry, and her most recent album was produced by banjo legend Béla Fleck. Now, singer, songwriter, and mandolin player Sierra Hull brings her folk-pop and bluegrass sounds to the Moss Arts Center, with a performance on Friday, June 15, at 7:30 p.m.

The duo concert program, which includes Ethan Jodziewicz on bass, is part of the Crooked Road’s Mountains of Music Homecoming and will be held in the Moss Arts Center’s Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre, located within the Street and Davis Performance Hall at 190 Alumni Mall.

Hull is a former child prodigy who, at age 11, was personally picked by Krauss to join her on the Grand Ole Opry stage and signed with record label Rounder when she was 13. Now in her 20s, Hull has played at the White House, Carnegie Hall, and the Kennedy Center, and made history when she became the first bluegrass musician to receive a prestigious Presidential Scholarship at the Berklee College of Music.

Hull’s most recent album, “Weighted Mind,” embraces the world of folk-pop, bluegrass, and acoustic music. While she continues to break new ground on the mandolin, Hull reveals in these songs her gifts as a composer and lyricist, speaking eloquently through heartfelt vocals in her challenging and sensitive original songs. Produced by 16-time Grammy Award winner Fleck, the album features 11 new compositions written or co-written by Hull and one traditional tune with a new arrangement by Hull and Fleck.

This performance is part of the Crooked Road’s Mountains of Music Homecoming, a nine-day celebration of traditional music and culture taking place June 8-16 in over 40 communities throughout Southwest Virginia.
