Virginia Tech was voted silver overall “Best Place to Work” by readers of SWVA Living magazine, The Roanoke Times, and roanoke.com during the annual SWVA Reader’s Choice Awards.

2018 award results were published June 17 in the Summer 2018 issue of SWVA Living magazine. The poll, open to the public, was conducted Feb. 26 through April 8 and garnered almost 20,000 votes as readers chose their favorite people, places, businesses, and services in five Southwest Virginia localities.

“Thank you to our employees and readers for voting Virginia Tech one of the best places to work in our area,” said Martin Daniel, associate vice present for human resources, strategic engagement. “At Virginia Tech, we are committed to our history of serving our community and strategically addressing the challenges and opportunities in a complex world. We are proud to receive this award, which honors the contributions and dedication of the 10,000-plus employees that work at Virginia Tech and make a difference in our community.”

Virginia Tech hires approximately 1,500 positions every year spanning from teaching and research faculty, administrative and professional faculty, and staff positions. Each position plays a unique and important role in helping the university achieve its Beyond Boundaries vision.

“As Virginia Tech continues to grow, so will our need for talented employees who share our goals,” said Daniel. “The Division of Human Resources and university leaders are committed to a long-term strategy that will help us attract, retain, and develop the talent that we need at all levels of the university. We seek to empower an engaged workforce toward our success as a world-class educational and research institution. We’d like everyone who works for Virginia Tech to become a Hokie for life.”
