Ford Ramsey named assistant professor of agricultural and applied economics

Ford Ramsey has been named assistant professor of agricultural and applied economics in the Virginia Tech College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

He is one of a number of new faculty members recently hired in the college this academic year. New positions were identified to bring talent to the college's focus areas, including food, health, the environment, and community viability. The new faculty members are distributed across teaching, research, and Extension.

Ramsey's research is focused on the development of statistical and econometric methods for the analysis of risk in agriculture. He is especially interested in temporal and spatial models for agricultural yields and commodity prices. He holds a research and teaching appointment.

While a Ph.D. student, Ramsey conducted research on the off-farm labor habits of Japanese farmers under a fellowship from the National Science Foundation's East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes. He was also awarded the Heading South Award by the American Agricultural and Applied Economics Association and the Australasian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society.

Ramsey received both his bachelor's degrees in music and economics and his master's degree in teaching from the University of North Carolina and received his doctorate in economics from North Carolina State University.
