Clinton Neill named assistant professor of agricultural and applied economics

Clinton Neill has been named assistant professor of agricultural and applied economics in the Virginia Tech College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

He is one of a number of new faculty members recently hired in the college this academic year. New positions were identified to bring talent to the college's focus areas, including food, health, the environment, and community viability. The new faculty members are distributed across teaching, research, and Extension.

Neill's appointment is focused on extension and teaching. His primary research is on food system economics and agribusiness. Specifically, his work involves understanding consumers' desires for food labels and the potential policy effects of such labels. Neill is also interested in understanding how firms spatially compete against each other locally and regionally.

Additionally, his extension program targets new agribusinesses and encourages them to develop business plans in order to be successful in the long-term. He also disseminates the differences between potential food labels and which ones are most effective in marketing new products.

Neill received both his bachelor's degree in agricultural and applied economics and his master's degree in agricultural and applied economics from Texas Tech University and his doctorate in agricultural economics from Oklahoma State University.
