Graduate School seeks nominations for outstanding faculty mentor awards
In 2017, the Graduate School launched an effort to honor faculty members in each college who serve as excellent mentors to graduate students.
The Outstanding Faculty Mentor award aims to recognize one faculty member from each college for their role in supporting, encouraging, and promoting a positive and inclusive scholarly and teaching environment, and for contributing to professional and personal development of graduate students within or outside their research or degree programs.
Vice President and Dean for Graduate Education Karen P. DePauw noted that mentoring involves more than directing projects, theses, and dissertations. It entails providing guidance and motivation in the context of students’ interests, passions, and personal circumstances, and helping students thrive, not just survive, during their graduate school experience.
The first recipients of the Outstanding Faculty Mentor award were saluted at the Graduate School Awards Dinner in May 2017.
The nomination period for this year’s award is open. The nominee must be a full-time faculty member who has successfully mentored students at the master’s degree and Ph.D. level.
