Kristin Phillips is named assistant professor, associate director of undergraduate programs in School of Neuroscience

Kristin Phillips has been named as an assistant professor and associate director of undergraduate programs for the School of Neuroscience at Virginia Tech, part of the Virginia Tech College of Science.

Phillips will oversee the expanding undergraduate curriculum and is working with the Virginia Tech Honors College to create a new Honors Laureate diploma in neuroscience, medicine, and culture. She will focus her efforts on designing undergraduate neuroscience courses that are innovative, transdisciplinary, and experiential.

Prior to coming to Virginia Tech, she was a research scientist for Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Neurology, where her work focused on studying behavioral and cognitive impairments suffered by military personnel after nerve gas exposure. Her research work specifically focused on the effects and treatment of medically unexplained illnesses suffered by Gulf War veterans.

An alumnae of Virginia Tech, she earned a bachelor’s degree from the Department of Psychology, before earning a doctoral degree in pharmacology and toxicology at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Phillips is one of 22 tenured and tenure-track faculty members to join the College of Science and the Virginia Tech School of Neuroscience this year.
