Editor's note: The time for BT service to be affected on the Drillfield was changed to 3:45 p.m. on Friday.

The following is an open letter to the Virginia Tech community.

As Virginia Tech prepares for its 2017 Day of Remembrance, we share the following information to all members of the Virginia Tech community.

Complete Day of Remembrance events and information are posted to the We Remember website.

The university expects thousands of visitors and alumni to be on campus this weekend for the 3.2-Mile Run in Remembrance and community picnic and the university commemoration and candlelight vigil. In addition, we expect several working journalists to cover our experiences this weekend. If you are approached by a reporter for an interview, it is your decision whether you accept or decline the offer. Please do what feels right for you.

Should inclement weather impact any of this weekend’s events, all updates and information will be posted to the university homepage and shared through university social media channels.

Events held this Saturday and Sunday will impact parking and traffic on campus. Traffic on Drillfield Drive will be limited starting at 5 p.m. on Friday and fully restricted beginning at 7:30 p.m. All vehicles must be removed from Drillfield parking spaces by 10 p.m. Please plan accordingly as a way to honor the remembrance events.

On Saturday, several more campus roads will be closed from approximately 9 a.m. to noon to accommodate the 3.2-Mile Run in Remembrance.

Blacksburg Transit routes along the Drillfield will be affected starting Friday at 3:45 p.m. Visit the Blacksburg Transit website for complete information.

As President Sands shared with us in an earlier letter, additional support resources and counselors will be on hand this week during remembrance events. Students, employees and visiting community members and alumni are encouraged to utilize these resources if needed.

We thank the entire Virginia Tech community for their understanding and assistance during this difficult and remembering time.
