Earlene Meredith receives Staff Career Achievement Award

Earlene Meredith, a retired Dining Services office administrator, has received the university’s 2017 Staff Career Achievement Award.

Meredith retired from the university in 2016 after 26 years of service.

Created in 2011 to recognize retiring staff members, the Staff Career Achievement Award is presented annually to as many as five individuals who have distinguished themselves through exemplary performance and service during their university careers. Nominees must have worked a minimum of 10 years at Virginia Tech. Each recipient is awarded a $1,000 cash prize.

As the administrative associate to the director of Dining Services, Meredith supported Dining Services through its transition from traditional cafeteria services to the award-winning units they are today. She handled both administrative processes such as keeping rosters of salaried employees and personnel actions, as well as trained and assisted unit assistants.

She is highly regarded by her colleagues for her ability to evaluate situations and implement the correct response, as noted in her work involving human resources and emergencies, such as following the April 16 tragedy.

Meredith worked closely with human resources staff in the Division of Student Affairs and maintained consistent dialogue between housing and dining maintenance staff to organize emergency repairs and staffing. She also offered administrative and support services to Housing and Residence Life, Fraternity and Sorority Life, and Student Conduct.

She was a member of the Time Clock Plus User Group and Committee, the Administrative Staff Professional Network, and the International Association of Administrative Professions. She also volunteered for Hokie Helpers to welcome new students in the fall.
