Susan Gill named director of new media for Virginia Tech
Susan Gill has been named director of new media for Virginia Tech.
In her new position, Gill will be responsible for aligning and advancing goals and priorities of the university by helping to create and implement a digital-first communications strategy.
Gill will work with Advancement teams across campus to promote the university to diverse audiences by using digital platforms to boost engagement and increase opportunities for innovation.
Among her priorities is building a network of digital ambassadors, creating social media guidelines, exploring new avenues of digital media communications, and implementing and measuring the impact of those communications.
Most recently, Gill was the web project manager and analytics coordinator for the Office of Communications and Marketing in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. In that role, she oversaw creation, maintenance, and best practices for websites used to advance the land-grant mission of the college and Virginia Cooperative Extension. She acted as support for website administrators in the units within the college, and she led the college and Extension website migration into the new university content management system.
Other projects Gill led included website redesigns, new website creation, and social media campaigns and analysis. She worked with people throughout the commonwealth to keep digital platforms consistent with the Virginia Tech and Extension brands.
Prior to this role, Gill came to Virginia Tech as the digital content specialist with the college and Extension, where she acted primarily as the social media manager and maintained multiple social media platforms for both units.
Gill began her career as a newspaper designer in Riverside, California, before making the switch to marketing graphic designer at a travel company in Boston, Massachusetts.
Gill received her bachelor of journalism degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri.
