Feng Lin named assistant professor of inorganic chemistry in Department of Chemistry

Feng Lin has been named as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry, part of the College of Science.

Lin focuses his research on inorganic chemistry, electrochemistry, materials, and energy sciences, specifically batteries and catalysis. Part of Lin’s research effort is to develop batteries with high energy/power densities, long cycle life, and enhanced safety.

He earned a bachelor’s of science in materials science and engineering from China’s Tianjin University in 2009 and a doctoral degree in materials science from Colorado School of Mines in 2012, and most recently worked as a staff member at QuantumScape Corp.

Among his honors is the Spicer Young Investigator Award won from the U.S. Department of Energy’s SLAC National Acceleratory Laboratory in 2015.

He is one of 18 tenured and tenure-track faculty members to join the College of Science and its affiliated programs this year. The college is made up of eight departments, including biological sciences, chemistry, economics, geosciences, mathematics, physics, psychology, and statistics, in addition to the new Virginia Tech School of Neuroscience, and the Academy of Integrated Science, the latter of which includes programs in nanoscience, computational modeling and data analytics, systems biology, the Integrated Science Curriculum, and the minor, science, technology, and law.
