The Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts’ 2016–17 season will feature guest artists, faculty, and students in more than a hundred musical, theatrical and film events, performances, and master classes. 

Music starts the season off with a Music on Mondays faculty recital on Sept. 12 and continues throughout the season with 21 music recitals featuring visiting and faculty artists. Guest artists include:

Two cinema events are scheduled for the fall. On Sept. 13, director Claudia Myers will host a screening of her film “Fort Bliss,” the story of a decorated U.S. Army medic who returns from Afghanistan and struggles to rebuild a relationship with her young son. On Oct. 7, the student-led Progeny Film Festival will showcase local and regional talent.

The Mainstage Theatre series will present a total of 40 performances of four productions, all written within the past 35 years.

A range of music ensembles will showcase student talent throughout the year. These ensembles include the New River Valley Symphony, Wind Ensemble, Virginia Tech Choirs, Symphony Band, Jazz Ensembles, Percussion Ensemble, brass and string ensembles, and L2Ork, the Linux Laptop Orchestra. Guest artists and conductors will make appearances at select concerts.

In March 2017, “Exposition IV: An Appalachian Spring” will bring the music ensembles together in one spectacular showcase at the Moss Arts Center for a benefit to support music scholarships at Virginia Tech.
