The Moss Arts Center presents its first student choice concert featuring the pop/rock homegrown Virginia band Parachute on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 7:30 p.m.

The performance will be in the Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre, located within the Moss Arts Center’s Street and Davis Performance Hall at 190 Alumni Mall. The event is part of Hokie Hi at Virginia Tech, a series of events and traditions to welcome students to campus.

Formed in 2006, Parachute took root in Charlottesville, Virginia, where it honed its mix of pop/rock, funk, and contemporary soul. “Losing Sleep,” the band’s first album with a major label, debuted in 2009 at number two on the Billboard Digital Albums chart and reached the number one spot on iTunes albums chart. The album included the single, “She is Love,” which reached number one on the iTunes music chart and was featured on the television show “One Tree Hill.”

The group’s second album, “Overnight,” debuted at number 15 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and its newest album, “Wide Awake,” was released earlier this year.

Parachute has toured with such artists as Kelly Clarkson and Gavin DeGraw, and has had three sold-out headlining tours.

The band features Will Anderson on vocals and guitar, Johnny Stubblefield on drums, and Christopher “Kit” French on saxophone and keyboards. When they were in high school in Charlottesville, the band spent nearly every afternoon in Anderson’s basement, creating songs that show a deep affinity for classic pop, heart-felt rock, and tuneful blue-eyed soul.

This event is the inaugural Moss Arts Center Ambassadors’ Student Choice concert. The center’s student ambassador program gives Virginia Tech students the opportunity to deepen their engagement with the arts and strengthen their educational, leadership, and service experience.

Prior to the event, Blacksburg band belated. will perform in the Moss Arts Center Grand Lobby beginning at 6:30 p.m. Jordon Ronan and Tim Fogg make up this two-piece acoustic pop group, which just released its debut album, “blame it on bad timing.”
