Cook Counseling Center receives reaccreditation
The Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center at Virginia Tech has been reaccredited by the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS).
The on-campus counseling center, a department within the Division of Student Affairs, was evaluated by IACS against high standards of counseling practice and reliable professional services.
"Cook Counseling Center is committed to offering students the highest quality services available; accreditation by the International Association of Counseling Services shows that the center meets all the standards expected of a first-rate counseling center,” said Christopher Flynn, director of Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center. “The thorough review by external experts assists Cook in ensuring that students and the Virginia Tech community receive the professional services they deserve."
Accreditation by IACS recognizes that on-campus counseling services are an integral part of the educational mission of the institution and support the mission in a variety of ways. Cook Counseling Center provides opportunities for students to learn more about themselves as individuals, form deeper relationships with their peers, and grow to benefit the Virginia Tech community and society at large.
Cook Counseling Center staff members provide these learning opportunities through individual and group counseling, psychiatric care and psychotherapy, and educational programming. Counselors are also involved in consultation with faculty and staff, student needs advocacy, program development, outreach programming, retention activities, research, and program evaluation that support the efforts of faculty and staff in enhancing the university environment.
For more information on the center or to schedule an appointment, visit the Cook Counseling Center website or call 540-231-6557.
IACS is an Alexandria, Virginia-based organization that was established in 1972 to encourage and aid counseling agencies to meet high professional standards through peer evaluation.
