A powerhouse group of young vocalists performs a cappella music from a variety of genres in “Vocalosity,” a live concert experience from the music director of the hit films “Pitch Perfect” and “Pitch Perfect 2,” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20. The evening will open with a performance by one of Virginia Tech’s own student a cappella ensembles, Juxtaposition.

Presented by the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech, the performance will be held in the Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre, located within the Moss Arts Center’s Street and Davis Performance Hall at 190 Alumni Mall.

Just as with the world of a cappella, in the fast-paced production, “Vocalosity:  The Aca-perfect Concert Experience,” no genre is off limits. The diverse ensemble will perform a varied repertoire of musical styles, including 10th century Gregorian chant, classical choral, barber shop quartet, and bouncing doo-wop.

The singers will explore the current sound of a cappella with music from The Beatles and Bruno Mars, and perform new arrangements of chart-topping hits that set a new standard for 12-part harmony.

Deke Sharon, who serves as artistic director, music director, and co-creator of “Vocalosity,” produced NBC’s “The Sing-Off” and served as on-site music director and vocal producer for Universal’s “Pitch Perfect” and “Pitch Perfect 2,” starring Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson.

The performance is directed and choreographed by original “Stomp” cast member Sean Curran.

Also performing will be Juxtaposition, a Virginia Tech all-male a cappella group. The ensemble submitted a performance video for “The Aca-Performance of a Lifetime Contest” and was picked by the “Vocalosity” creative team to serve as the opening act for the evening.

Sharon will lead a vocal workshop for Virginia Tech student a cappella singers during his visit, and a select number of undergraduate student contest winners will meet some of the show’s singers in a meet-and-greet event following the performance.
