A Virginia Tech search committee working to find the Virginia Tech College of Science dean has selected three finalists to visit campus. Lay Nam Chang announced plans to step down as dean in the summer of 2016.

Executive Vice President and Provost Thanassis Rikakis invites the campus community to meet the finalists and to watch each candidate’s open forum presentation on “The Future of Science: Educational, Research, and Outreach Opportunities for the Virginia Tech College of Science.” 

The open forum presentations will be broadcast live online for remote participants, and recordings of the sessions will be posted online. Each candidate's curriculum vitae will be posted on the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost's website in advance of each visit date. The search committee also encourages all campus and community members to submit feedback on the candidates via online surveys that will be posted on the website.

Jan. 27-28 – Kenneth W. Henderson

Kenneth Henderson is professor and chair in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at University of Notre Dame, where he also serves as the senior assistant provost for internationalization. Prior to these roles, he also chaired the Peer Audience Council for University Communications and served for four years as the associate director of the Center for Sustainable Energy at Notre Dame.  He has 20 years of experience in academic faculty and leadership roles, and holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Strathclyde in the United Kingdom.

Feb. 9-10 – Sally C. Morton

Sally Morton is professor and chair in the Department of Biostatistics within the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh.  She also serves as the director of the Comparative Effectiveness Research Center in the Health Policy Institute at University of Pittsburgh, and holds secondary appointments in the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, Department of Statistics, and the Clinical and Translation Science Institute. She has over 30 years of experience in academic and research settings, and holds a master’s degree in statistics from the London School of Economics, a master’s degree in operations research from Stanford University, and a Ph.D. in statistics from Stanford University.

Feb.16-17 – Rebecca W. Doerge

Rebecca Doerge is the Trent and Judith Anderson Distinguished Professor of Statistics at Purdue University. She joined Purdue University in 1995 and holds a joint appointment between the College of Agriculture (Department of Agronomy) and the College of Science (Department of Statistics). She has over 30 years of experience as faculty member, researcher, and leader in higher education, bringing a multi-disciplinary focus to her work.  Most recently, she also served as head of the Department of Statistics at Purdue for five years.  She holds a Master of Statistics in Mathematics from the University of Utah and a Ph.D. in statistics with a minor in Genetics from North Carolina State University.
