BLACKSBURG — The final days of winter session and winter break are here, and Virginia Tech students have already begun to return as spring semester classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Residence halls will open at noon on Friday, Jan. 15; students returning to their residence hall room are asked to come back to campus Saturday or Sunday.

New students and newly assigned resident students will be able to check-in to their residence hall between noon and 5 p.m. on Jan. 15, or on Jan. 16. New students, especially those who need a Hokie Passport and access to other university services, are encouraged to come Friday as most university offices will be closed Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day).

On Friday, Jan. 15, dining services will be available at DXpress and the Au Bon Pain Kiosk in Squires Student Center.  On Saturday, Jan. 16, additional dining services will be available at Au Bon Pain Squires and Burger ’37. Owens Food Court and West End Market open Sunday, Jan. 17. Regular hours resume at most other dining centers on Monday, Jan. 18.

Schiffert Health Center

  • Closed on Monday, Jan. 18, but open regular hours starting Tuesday, Jan. 19.

  • Closed on Monday, Jan. 18, but open regular hours starting Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Student orientation programs

  • New undergraduate student orientation will be held Friday, Jan. 15, in Squires Student Center. Check-in will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. The program includes lunch and will conclude no later than 3 p.m. Check the orientation schedule for more information.
  • New graduate student orientation will be held Friday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. in the Graduate Life Center Multipurpose Room. Visit the new graduate student website for more information.
  • Graduate Teaching Assistant workshop will be held Thursday, Jan. 14, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in the Graduate Life Center Multipurpose Room. Check the Graduate Teaching Assistant Workshop website.
  • The Cranwell International Center at Harper Hall will welcome new incoming international students with a series of activities from Jan. 14 to Jan. 19. Check theCranwell website for more information.

University Libraries

  • All university libraries operate under break hours through Jan. 17. The libraries will be closed Jan.18 for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and will resume regular semester hours on Jan. 19. For detailed times, please visit the library hours page.

Recreational Sports

  • McComas Hall resumes normal hours for recreation and fitness on Monday, Jan. 18, opening at 6 a.m. and closing at 11:30 p.m. The McComas pool closes at 10 p.m.
  • War Memorial Gym also returns to normal hours on Monday, Jan. 18., opening at 5:30 a.m. and closing at 11:30 p.m.  
  • Registration for intramural sports, swim lessons, gymnastic lessons, dance classes, Venture Out trips, small group training and group exercise classes will open on Monday, Jan. 18. A free week of fitness begins Tuesday, Jan. 19. Visit the Recreational Sports website for more information.
  • The Student Health and Wellness Fair will take place in McComas Hall, all day, Friday Jan. 22.

Student Engagement and Campus Life

  • Squires Student Center will be open on Monday, Jan. 18.
  • Johnston Student Center will be closed on Monday, Jan. 18, and will be open normal hours starting Tuesday, Jan. 19.
  • The Graduate Life Center at Donaldson-Brown will open on Monday, Jan.18 from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

  • University offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 18. The Virginia Tech community will have numerous opportunities to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. the last two weeks of January.

University Bookstores

  • The on-campus University Bookstore and off-campus Volume Two Bookstore are ready with regular and extended hours as students prepare for spring semester. Visit theVirginia Tech Services website for store hours information. 

Blacksburg Transit
