BLACKSBURG — Ken McCrery has been named deputy executive director for Virginia Tech's Technology-enhanced Learning and Online Strategies, a unit of Information Technology.

In his new position, McCrery works with Executive Director Dale Pike to provide guidance and oversight for administrative and operational initiatives, including recruiting and retention of personnel, performance management, and supervision of projects and services that support teaching and learning at the university.

“As the solutions we support become increasingly complex and multifunctional, staying on top of the training, support, documentation, development, systems administration, and client services required becomes more challenging than ever,” said Pike. “To help us tackle this challenge, Ken brings extensive experience in managing enterprise level projects and systems both at Virginia Tech and in industry. Ken is both effective and collegial; we are very excited to have him join the family.”

McCrery has more than ten years of service at Virginia Tech. His previous role was senior director of application architecture and planning in Enterprise Systems, a separate unit within the Division of Information Technology.

“Ken McCrery’s experience in managing complex projects and his knowledge of Virginia Tech’s financial procedures are important assets as Technology-enhanced Learning and Online Strategies increases its impact on teaching and learning at Virginia Tech” said Scott Midkiff, vice president for Information Technology. “His new position allows him to leverage and further broaden his expertise in information technology management.”

McCrery received his bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
