'Music on Mondays' offers a musical start to the week
The "Music on Mondays" series opens the School of Performing Arts 2015-2016 season with two performances from visiting artists. Performances are held at 7:30 p.m. in the Squires Recital Salon, which provides an intimate space for a close-up view of the performers.
Aug. 31, Ellen Breakfield-Glick and Mariah Boucher
Clarinetist Ellen Breakfield-Glick and pianist Mariah Boucher will perform a recital of works by Louis Cahuzac, Robert Schumann, Bohuslav Martinu, and Robert Muczynski.
Breakfield-Glick maintains an active career as a sought-after performer and educator. She holds positions with CityMusic Cleveland Chamber Orchestra and the award-winning Michigan Philharmonic Orchestra. She has served on the faculty at Cleveland State University since 2013 and has held positions with the summer programs of the University of Michigan and the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts.
She will be joined by pianist Mariah Boucher. Active as a collaborative pianist, chamber musician, and soloist, Boucher frequently performs in recitals and has been a featured soloist with orchestras performing the concerti of Mendelssohn and Ravel. Boucher currently serves as visiting Professor of Collaborative Piano at Indiana University South Bend.
Sept. 14, Jerry Tachoir and Marlene Tachoir
Jazz vibraphonist Jerry Tachoir and pianist Marlene Tachoir will perform. Jerry Tachoir has performed both as a solo artist and in groups at numerous jazz festivals, including the prestigious Montreux and North Sea Jazz Festivals in Europe. Two of his CDs have received Grammy nominations. Marlene Tachoir is a keyboardist, composer, and instructor.
Tickets for each of the first two performances are $15 general, $12 senior, and $7 student, and may be purchased through the Squires ticket office, or by calling 540-231-5615. Tickets will also be available at the box office beginning one hour prior to the performance.
The Music on Mondays series showcases national and international guest artists and our talented faculty artists. There are 16 performances scheduled for the 2015-2016 season, with many free of charge.
Squires Theatre is located in the Squires Student Center at 290 College Ave. on the campus of Virginia Tech.
