President Timothy Sands and Pamplin Dean Robert Sumichrast to ring Nasdaq opening bell Thursday
Virginia Tech President Timothy D. Sands and Pamplin College of Business Dean Robert Sumichrast will ring the opening bell at the Nasdaq MarketSite in New York's Times Square at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 30.
Sands and Sumichrast will be visiting the Nasdaq MarketSite with Virginia Tech alumni in the New York City area and other representatives from Virginia Tech and Pamplin, including its Apex Systems Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
The Apex Systems Center was launched in 2013 to support entrepreneurship and innovation programs across the university.
The center strives to cultivate an atmosphere and culture that "unleashes creativity, sparks vision and innovation, and teaches the governing principles that are the foundation of every successful enterprise, while nourishing and sustaining the entrepreneurial spirit in students," said its executive director Derick Maggard.
Nasdaq, creator of the world's first electronic stock market, is home to more than 3,500 listed companies with a market value of approximately $9.5 trillion and more than 10,000 corporate clients.
In September, Nasdaq will officially launch a new entrepreneurial center in San Francisco aimed at helping entrepreneurs before they consider taking their businesses to the stock markets.
