Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus 1st Lt. David Jacobs, U.S. Air Force, who earned a degree in computer science from the College of Engineering and a minor in leadership studies from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Rice Center for Leader Development in 2011 was the Hokie Hero for the Military Bowl game in which Virginia Tech played the University of Cincinnati.

The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Hokie Hero program started in 2006 by IMG College, honors Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumni who are currently deployed. Recipients of this honor are highlighted by Bill Roth and Mike Burnop during the radio broadcast of Virginia Tech football games, on the Corps of Cadets website and in the Corps Review magazine.

Jacobs is currently deployed to Camp Lemmonier, Djibouti, as a member of the 449th Air Expeditionary Group, 75th Air Expeditionary Squadron, where he is serving as a pilot on the C-130J Super Hercules. 

He is from Roanoke, Va., and attended Roanoke Catholic High School. This is his first deployment.

Jacobs is a graduate of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Class of 2011 and was a member of Foxtrot Company. His home station is Dyess Air Force Base, Texas.

Jacobs send his love to his mother, Theresa Hartley, his family, his girlfriend Michelle Hanvey, and all Hokies around the world.
