William G. Abplanalp named audit manager of internal audit
William “Bill” G. Abplanalp has been named audit manager in the Department of Internal Audit at Virginia Tech.
In his position, Abplanalp will be responsible for planning, conducting, and overseeing a variety of projects within the Department of Internal Audit including risk-based audit engagements, compliance reviews, and special projects. He will also provide leadership to audit staff and interface with senior management while directing various assignments.
With more than 11 years of professional experience, Abplanalp has had an accomplished career in audit, information technology security, consultative services, and information assurance. He most recently worked three years at Radford University, serving as the information security officer and he managed the day-to-day operations of the information technology security office.
He began his audit career at KPMG, served as a consultant at BearingPoint, began the information technology audit function for Radford’s internal audit department, and worked at Deloitte & Touche before returning to Radford University.
Abplanalp received his bachelor’s degree in management science and information technology and a MBA degree from Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business.
