The grace and elegance of classical ballet fuses with a repertoire of sharp new work for a performance by Aspen Santa Fe Ballet. The Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech presents the eclectic contemporary ballet company on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m.

The performance will be held in the Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre, located within the Moss Arts Center’s Street and Davis Performance Hall at 190 Alumni Mall.

With a bold vision supported by top choreographers, distinctive groundbreaking works, and virtuoso dancers, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet embraces the contemporary-classical genre of dance. Led by Tom Mossbrucker, former celebrated star of the Joffrey Ballet, the chamber-sized ensemble places highest priority on developing new choreography and nurturing relationships with emerging choreographers.

The company fostered the early careers of global dance makers like Nicolo Fonte, Jorma Elo, Edwaard Liang, Jacopo Godani, Helen Pickett, Cayetano Soto, Alejandro Cerrudo, and others. Works by late 20th century masters, including William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, and Twyla Tharp, round out the repertoire.

The company will hold a master class with area ballet dancers on October 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Center of Dance in Blacksburg. The ensemble will also present a free matinee youth performance for middle school students from throughout southwest Virginia at the Moss Arts Center on October 30 at 11:00 a.m. Schools, teachers, and homeschool parents wishing to make group reservations for the matinee should contact Jon Catherwood-Ginn, Center for the Arts partnerships and engagement manager, by email or by calling 540-231-0872.

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet has solid home seasons in Aspen, Colorado, and Santa Fe, New Mexico, as well as year-round national and international touring. The company regularly brings its trademark innovative choreography to dance landmarks like Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, the Kennedy Center, American Dance Festival, Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, and New York’s Joyce Theater. Internationally, the company has performed in Brazil, Canada, France, Greece, Guatemala, Israel, Italy, and Russia.
