Warren E. Milteer Jr. has been appointed an assistant professor in the Department of History in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech.

Milteer is one of 27 new tenure-track faculty members at the college this fall. The new hires are part of the college’s ongoing efforts to attract renowned scholars to strengthen and expand its teaching, research, and engagement programs. The college has added more than 100 full-time permanent faculty members in the past four years.

Milteer’s research focuses on free people of color in North Carolina from the colonial period through Reconstruction. He will teach U.S. history.

He has been published in the North Carolina Historical Review and the Journal of Social History.

Milteer received his bachelor's degree from North Carolina State University, a master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
