Monica Kimbrell has been named director of student recruitment and career development for the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech.

A new position in the college, Kimbrell will lead recruiting initiatives and develop strategies to attract first-time and transfer students to the college. She also will be the college’s liaison with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Division of Student Affairs, and Career Services.

She also will teach human development and business courses while she continues her research on career decisions of underserved students.

“The College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences is delighted that Dr. Kimbrell will lead our efforts to recruit top students and to help them find rich and rewarding careers when their time at Virginia Tech comes to a close,” said Robert Stephens, associate dean for undergraduate academic affairs. “Her broad experience and training and her keen intellect will be an invaluable asset to the college.”

Previously Kimbrell served as project manager for the university’s Center for Information Technology Impacts on Children, Youth, and Families. There she assisted with a $2.5 million National Science Foundation sponsored-project that engaged Appalachian communities to support women in information technology careers.

Kimbrell received her bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. from Virginia Tech and her MBA from King University.
