Judy Ingle named Friend of Virginia Cooperative Extension
The Alpha Gamma chapter of Epsilon Sigma Phi, the national honorary organization for the Cooperative Extension System, has recognized Judy Ingle of Jonesville, Virginia, as the 2014 Friend of Extension for her 18 years of support for Virginia Cooperative Extension programs at the local and state levels.
The award was presented to Ingle in May, during the Epsilon Sigma Phi luncheon at the Virginia Extension Service Association Annual Conference, held at W.E. Skelton 4-H Educational Conference Center in Wirtz, Virginia.
Ingle began her involvement as a 4-H club volunteer when her children were involved in 4-H. Since then, she has served in multiple leadership roles, including president of the State Extension Leadership Council, president of the Virginia Association of Adult 4-H Volunteer Leaders, and an officer of the 4-H Volunteer Leaders Association. Using her leadership skills, Ingle traveled to Richmond to speak with legislators, helping to secure continued financial support for Extension programs.
“She was instrumental in speaking to boards of supervisors on behalf of Extension to share the value of the organization and ensure continued support,” said Jeannie Mullins, family and consumer sciences Extension agent in Lee County.
Ingle has also judged 4-H competitions, conducted workshops at 4-H camps, and chaperoned state and national 4-H Congress. She was tapped a 4-H All Star and has served on the Lee County Extension Leadership Council and the Lee County 4-H Advisory Committee.
“Judy is always willing to assist in any event if she is able. She believes in Extension and the value of it to the community and state,” said Shelia Belcher, 4-H youth development Extension agent in Lee County.
