An active student club since 1981, The Virginia Tech Alpine Ski Team has both a men's team and a women's team that compete in the Southeastern Collegiate Ski Conference throughout January and February.

Both the men's and women's team compete in Giant Slalom and Slalom events. Results of this year's season were released in late February and found that the men’s team placed fifth overall; the women’s team placed fourth.

The goal of the team is to provide its members with a chance to ski competitively on a consistent basis, and to assist all members in becoming better skiers. The ski team begins dry-land training from late September until December.

On-snow workouts begin at Winterplace Ski Resort, in Beckley, W.Va., at the start of the spring semester.

The team competes at various locations in West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina during the regular season. In the skiing off season, the team groups for intramural soccer, innertube water polo, and softball. They also participate in The Big Event each year.

Unexperienced skiers are encouraged to get involved. There is an A Team, a B Team, and a Practice Team to accommodate all levels of skiers. There is no racing experience required.

For more info or answers to specific questions check out the team on Facebook.
