Anderson & Roe bring a fresh take on piano duo performance
With an innovative approach to the piano duo experience, the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech welcomes Anderson & Roe and their energetic performance of classical music and current selections on Sunday, March 2, at 3 p.m.
The concert will be held in the Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre, located within the Moss Arts Center’s Street and Davis Performance Hall at 190 Alumni Mall.
Known for their rousing performances, original compositions, and popular music videos, Greg Anderson and Elizabeth Joy Roe aim to make classical music a relevant and powerful force around the world.
The duo’s performance will feature selections from Johann Sebastian Bach, Igor Stravinsky, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and English rock band Radiohead. Advance program notes are available with more specific performance details.
Prior to their Sunday afternoon performance, Anderson & Roe will participate in a brown bag talk about the future of classical music with students and faculty from Virginia Tech’s Department of Music, as well as students from a University Honors colloquium, “Music Today.”
Anderson & Roe’s recent album, “When Words Fade,” which was released on the Steinway label in 2012, spent over 12 weeks at the top of the Billboard Classical Charts, while their Emmy-nominated and self-produced music videos have been viewed by millions on YouTube. The duo has appeared on National Public Radio and MTV and toured extensively around the world. Highlights of their 2013-14 season include tours throughout North America, Asia, and South Africa; an appearance at the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival; a new, all-Mozart album; and the release of their music film, “The Rite of Spring.”
