As part of the Leaders in Action lecture series hosted each term by the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Maj. Gen. W. Thomas Rice Center for Leader Development, Ted Thomas will speak to the corps on Thursday, Feb. 27. 

His talk will take place at 3:30 p.m. in the Burruss Hall auditorium, located at 800 Drillfield Dr. This event is open to the public and no tickets are required.

Thomas serves as the Director of the Department of Command and Leadership at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., in 1978 and served 20 years before retiring as a battalion commander in 1998.

Thomas received a master’s degree in civil engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a doctorate in engineering management from Missouri University of Science and Technology. His doctoral thesis was on leadership development.

In his current role, he supervises over 35 civilian and military department members who develop and deliver leadership curriculum for the 10-month long resident Command and General Staff Officer Course. Over 1,400 resident students annually attend the course, with representation from more than 80 countries and members from each branch of the armed services.

As the subject matter expert on leadership and leader development, he advises and represents the deputy commandant and other department directors on matters of leadership education.
