Virginia Tech employees give more than $300,000 to charities
The following is an open letter to Virginia Tech employees from Sherwood G. Wilson, honorary chair of the 2013 Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign.
Once again, Virginia Tech employees have shown incredible support for their community by making a record-breaking donation to those in need.
Thanks to the generosity of more than 1,500 employees, we raised $311,215 for the 2013 Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign, exceeding our $300,000 goal. This year’s total is an increase of almost $26,000 more than we raised in 2012. Over the last five years, Virginia Tech employees have given more than $1.3 million.
Not only did employees make individual gifts, but departments and offices across the university hosted fundraisers and activities to raise funds for the campaign as well.
The organizations receiving the highest level support from Virginia Tech employees included the Free Clinic of the New River Valley; the United Way of Montgomery, Radford, and Floyd; and the Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley. Hundreds of other organizations received support as well.
Thank you for your generosity. Your donations will make a world of difference in our communities.
