Highty-Tighties selected to march in Governor's Inaugural Parade
Governor-elect Terry McAuliffe has invited the Highty-Tighties to march in the parade. “We are proud to represent the Corps of Cadets and Virginia Tech in Richmond and were pleased that Governor-elect McAuliffe invited the Highy-Tighties to participate,” stated band director Maj. George McNeill.
Ninety-one members of the band will return to campus from winter break to practice and prepare for the performance. They will depart Blacksburg early Saturday morning for the parade, which is scheduled to begin at approximately 1 p.m. immediately following the inauguration ceremony.
The parade will march eastbound on East Grace Street. and progress around the Capital, then exit and return along Franklin Street.
The Highty-Tighties have marched in many presidential and gubernatorial inaugural parades during their 117 years. They have performed in the last five gubernatorial inaugural parades, most recently marching in the governor’s inaugural parade in 2010 in Richmond, as well as performing in the “We are One” ceremony during the inaugural festivities for President Barack Obama.
