Kathy Hosig, associate professor of population health sciences in the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, recently learned that public-health challenges in Malaysia are strikingly similar to those in the United States. 

Diet-related problems are creating an epidemic of chronic illnesses, despite the plenteous supplies of colorful fruits and vegetables she saw throughout the country on a recent trip.
