John Brozovsky, associate professor of accounting and information systems in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, has been appointed the Wayne E. Leininger Senior Faculty Fellow by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The Wayne E. Leininger Fellowship in Accounting and Information Systems was established by friends of Wayne E. Leininger to honor the former faculty member and department head who served the Department of Accounting and Information Systems from 1971 until his retirement in 2003. The fellowship recognizes excellence in teaching and scholarship. Recipients hold the fellowship for a period of three years.

A member of the Virginia Tech faculty since 1989, Brozovsky has published more than 25 peer-reviewed journal articles, more than a dozen other articles, one book and two book chapters. He has made more than 30 presentations. Recently, Brozovsky made numerous presentations on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) at meetings sponsored by organizations including the American Accounting Association, the Port Authorities of North America, Illinois CPA Society, and the Georgia Society of CPAs.

In the department’s last Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International accreditation visit, the peer review team specifically recognized the department’s leadership in preparing its students to live in a changing financial reporting environment. Brozovsky‘s contributions in this area are significant.

He has served as a reader on 14 dissertation committees and has chaired four others. This year, Brozovsky is the primary advisor to more than 800 accounting and information systems juniors, seniors and master’s degree students. Student evaluations of advising have improved substantially for the department due in large part to his involvement as an advisor.

Brozovsky received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Texas and a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado.
