Ralph D. Badinelli, professor of business information technology in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, was recently named the Ralph Medinger Lenz Professor in Business by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The Ralph Medinger Lenz Professorship, established in 1988 through a gift from Ferguson Enterprises in honor of Ralph Medinger Lenz, Virginia Tech Class of 1931. The professorship recognizes excellence in scholarly research.

A member of the Virginia Tech community since 1985, Badinelli has engaged in innovative research in the emerging domain of service science. His work in this field has led to international and interdisciplinary collaborations, including his chairing of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) Service Science Section, membership on the international management team of the Service Research and Innovation Institute, and membership on the Board of Directors of the International Society of Service Innovation Professionals.

His research has been published in several of the leading peer-reviewed journals in the fields of management science and operations management. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Pi Sigma, and Phi Kappa Phi.

In his career at Virginia Tech, he has served on 35 graduate committees throughout the university and has taught 15 different courses in the Department of Business Information Technology. He is a recipient of the Pamplin College of Business Certificate of Teaching Excellence.

Badinelli received his bachelor’s degree from Hofstra University and two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. from Purdue University.
