Five faculty and staff members were recently named Multicultural Fellows at Virginia Tech.

Multicultural Fellows are a select group of Virginia Tech faculty and staff members who promote the university's diversity efforts.The program recognizes members of the university community for their contributions to diversity. It provides a forum for individuals to conceptualize, participate in, and influence programs that promote diversity, as well as offer input, feedback, and share ideas on diversity issues on campus.

New members include:

  • Julie Dunsmore, associate professor of psychology and director of the Social Development Lab, College of Science;
  • Cathy Hill, graduate coordinator for the Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering;
  • Sunnie E. Hughes, assistant director, Undergraduate Admissions;
  • Melanie Matthews, education support specialist for new undergraduate programs, College of Science; and 
  • Karen B. Watson, director of academic support, College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.

The Multicultural Fellows Program is open to all university administrators, faculty, and staff. A call for applications is announced campus wide during the fall.
