Dr. Katie Boes, of Laurel, Md., has joined the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine as clinical instructor of clinical pathology in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology. She began her new position at the veterinary college on Oct. 10.

Boes comes to the college from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she completed both her residency in clinical pathology in July 2011 and a master’s in clinical pathology in August 2011. Prior to her residency, Boes earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in the public-corporate track from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008.

“I am very pleased that Dr. Boes has returned home and joined our clinical pathology unit of the department,” said Dr. Ansar Ahmed, head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology. “This department now has three boarded clinical pathologists from the American College of Veterinary Pathology.”

In her new role, Boes will provide primary clinical service support throughout the year. She will supervise and teach both veterinary students and residents in training seminars as well as laboratory sessions.

Boes earned her bachelor’s in biology, summa cum laude, from Loyola University Maryland in 2003. She passed the American College of Veterinary Pathology boards in clinical pathology on her first attempt, which, according to Dr. Ahmed, is something very uncommon for first-round candidates.
