Update: On Monday April 4, 2011 the Virginia Tech Police Department issued a Crime Alert to the Virginia Tech community, noting that a sexual assault had been reported during a concert in Burruss Hall on Sunday, April 3. 

The alleged victim, while attending the concert, had been confronted by Virginia Tech Police officers regarding her apparent state of intoxication.  While officers were removing the person from the concert, she reported that she had been sexually assaulted.  Subsequent investigation determined that the report was false and that the alleged assault did not occur.  The person who reported the assault has since stated that the report was false, and confirmed that she had not been assaulted.

The Virginia Tech Police Department takes all reports of sexual assault seriously.  We remain dedicated to providing responsive service to all victims of crime.  We will continue to thoroughly investigate all incidents in a fair, objective, and compassionate manner, in fulfillment of our responsibilities to victims and to the community.  Anyone who is the victim of a sexual assault is strongly encouraged to report the incident to the police immediately.

Crime Alert: Sexual assault reported by student

BLACKSBURG, Va., April 4, 2011 -- During the Wiz-Khaliffa concert on April 3, 2011, a student reported that she was sexually assaulted by an unknown male subject. The assault reportedly took place between the hours of 9:00pm and 9:15 pm in the women’s restroom located just outside the auditorium on the north-east side of the second floor of Burruss Hall. The suspect was described as a college-aged, white, male, approximately six feet tall with dark hair, clean shaven, and wearing a black polo type shirt and blue jeans.
