Thea Glidden has been named director of communications and marketing for Virginia Tech’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Her appointment began on Feb. 1.

In her new position, Glidden will provide leadership for the development of a comprehensive, integrated communications and marketing strategy for the college, as well as for Virginia Cooperative Extension and the Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station.

“We are excited to have Thea bring her experience of promoting the life sciences and higher education to Virginia Tech,” said Alan Grant, dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Prior to joining Virginia Tech, Glidden was director of marketing and communications for the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, where she was responsible for the development of and strategy for a college-wide direct marketing, communications, and public relations plan. From 2000 to 2009, she served as executive director of communications and public affairs for the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Glidden also directed communications and public affairs for the Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering from 1997 to 2000.

Glidden received an associate degree in applied science from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a bachelor of fine arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art.
