Lisa Martin of Reynolds Homestead wins arts award

Lisa Martin, senior program manager at the Reynolds Homestead, a commonwealth campus center of Virginia Tech, has won the 2010 Perry F. Kendig Award for excellence in arts education.

The Arts Council of the Blue Ridge recognized Martin for her efforts to bring quality arts programming to the rural community of Critz in Patrick County. The Reynolds Homestead, which is part of Virginia Tech's Outreach and International Affairs, has hosted exhibitions from the Smithsonian Institution and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts as well as performances by the Latin Ballet of Virginia and Theatre IV of Richmond.

Lectures, workshops, and classes complement the exhibits and performances – an array designed to fulfill the mission of the late Nancy Susan Reynolds, whose endowment created and helps sustain the Reynolds Homestead.

The award was granted June 9 at Roanoke College. The Kendig awards are named after the late Perry F. Kendig, a longtime supporter of the arts and past president of Roanoke College. The awards have recognized businesses, cultural organizations, and individual supporters of the arts for the past 25 years.

"Lisa demonstrates many strengths – particularly her ability to partner with agencies and organizations," said Kay Dunkley, director of Reynolds Homestead Continuing Education Center. "She is outcome oriented, eager to accept new challenges, a devoted arts educator, and an individual who fosters the university’s motto of Ut Prosim (That I May Serve)."
