Wayne Donald, Virginia Tech's information technology security officer, has been named the university's director for information security resources and coordination.

Randy Marchany, director of the Information Technology Security Lab, has assumed the duties of information technology security officer.

“Wayne Donald has served the university extraordinarily well in information technology security,” said Erv Blythe, the Virginia Tech’s vice president for information technology and chief information officer.

Donald has served as the information technology security officer since the position was created. Now, as the first director for information security resources and coordination, he will establish a documentation and coordination process for requests for digital information ranging from forensic investigations to requests relevant to allegations of online copyright infringements, said Blythe.

Blythe noted that Marchany’s experience with the security laboratory, previous experience in the Virginia Tech information technology security office, and security work at the national level have prepared for his new role. Marchany will continue to direct the Information Technology Security Lab.

The information technology security officer works closely with all facets of the university community to promote awareness of information technology security practices.
