Virginia Tech welcomes the families of Virginia Tech students to campus for the annual tradition known as Family Day.

There will be many activities and programs throughout the weekend, giving families the chance to learn more about Virginia Tech. On Friday, Oct. 23 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Family Day welcome desk on the first floor of Squires Student Center will have event schedules, maps, brochures, and Family Day favors.

University President Charles W. Steger will kick off of Family Day Saturday morning in the Commonwealth Ballroom of Squires Student Center. The program will include a special recognition of the 2009 Virginia Tech Parent of the Year, as well as light refreshments. Doors open at 8:45 a.m., and the program begins at 9:30 a.m.

Come to the Drillfield from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday as the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets present a formal pass in review in honor of the visiting parents, families, and guests of Virginia Tech.

On Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at D2 dining center in Dietrick Hall, join national award-winning Dining Services for the Home Sweet Home Dinner, featuring the winning dishes submitted by family members for the Home Sweet Home Recipe Contest. The price will be $3.45 for Flex Plans, and $10.80 for Dining Dollars, Hokie Passport, and cash.

For events in Squires Student Center, parking is available with a parking pass in the Squires Lot, located at the corner of College Avenue and Otey Street, or the Shultz Hall Lot, located off Alumni Drive near the North Main Street campus entrance. Parking meters within the Squires Lot will need to be paid. A visitor’s pass may be obtained Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Visitor Information Center, located on Southgate Drive.

With a visitor’s pass, parking is also available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the Coliseum Lot, Engel Lot, and the Ag Quad Lot. A visitor’s pass may be obtained Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Visitor’s Information Center, located on Southgate Drive. Parking is free in the Coliseum Lot and Ag Quad Lot after 5 p.m., and is free in the Engel Lot after 5:30 p.m. Find more parking information online or call (540) 231-3200.
