Nano-Bio convergence conference set for Oct. 14-15 in Roanoke

Virginia Tech's Continuing and Professional Education is hosting Nano-Bio: The Next Transformative Convergence, Oct. 14-15 at the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center in Roanoke.

A major goal of this multi-disciplinary conference, which is sponsored by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the National Science Foundation, is to promote collaborations among faculty and students who are engaged in the often converging fields of nanotechnology and biotechnology.

Nobel Laureate Ferid Murad, director emeritus of the University of Texas Health Science Center, is the featured plenary speaker. Other speakers include Dave Geohegan of the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Joachim Schummer from the University of Darmstadt in Germany.

The program will focus on three areas – cellular engineering, targeted delivery of nanomedicine, and nanotechnology environmental health and safety. Participants will have the opportunity to exchange ideas, present current research findings, and charter courses for future research.

The registration fees of $350 for faculty or $110 for graduate students include lunch on both days, coffee breaks, receptions, dinners on Wednesday and Thursday nights, and conference materials. The registration fee for Humboldtians is $110 and their lodging will be covered by the Humboldt Foundation.

The registration deadline is Oct. 1; the deadline for registration with ensured hotel reservations is Sept. 14.
